Grief Yoga

Hello everybody! We found this lovely blog post on Farewell Partners blog, and we thought it was so amazing that we just had to share it with you all! Here is the link to the original post on their website.

Farewell Partners is amazing! Not only do they provide amazing blog posts such as this one, but they offer virtual memorials and funerals for our loved ones. That’s right, a virtual memorial! They help to connect us grievers in these crazy times where in-person gatherings may not always be an option.

We love what they are doing so much, and wish we had them when Art died. Here’s the link to their website if you are interested. Otherwise, here is the blog post for you:

There are many paths that can be taken to deal with grief. Turning to Wellness and Grief Yoga is just one of the many positive ways to heal from the loss of a loved one, as it provides a safe and compassionate space to acknowledge one’s emotions and connect to the gift of life.

Grief Yoga uses many types of yoga, meditation, breathing techniques, and movement to help with the healing process. This practice is not about the asana or the movement, but about becoming present and aware of one’s own feelings and emotions in the given moment.

Grief Yoga is meant to provide the student with whatever they need at that time. It is not about the level of difficulty or achievement of a pose; it is an opportunity to take a peaceful flow and use it to lift oneself from depression and inner struggle. By empowering the grieving, this practice can help the student to find their individual ‘new normal’ in life.

The joy one feels on the mat can be held close to the heart and soul once off the mat as the student begins to learn to live without the loved one that has physically left this world. By finding new sources of joy in their life, the student can also begin to let go of the pain and suffering and begin to reconnect with love, laughter, and the joy of life.

Amazing, right?

We have started to practice yoga more frequently (every day, actually) because it helps us clear our heads and ground ourselves. We knew it was helpful, but we never really thought about how it’s helping our grief. This blog post changed that!

After reading this and realizing the benefits we have had from our daily yoga practice, we can honestly say we recommend yoga and meditation to new and experienced grievers. We began practicing yoga only recently, but as the blog post said, it has helped us to be so much more in tune with what we are feeling on and off the mat. It helps us be more aware of what we are feeling emotionally and physically, which makes it easier to address. This actually helps grief to not be quite as overwhelming, which is amazing!

We started with Yoga with Adriane on YouTube, and we highly recommend her! Her videos are easy to follow, beginner friendly, and usually about twenty minutes long. She also provides some wonderful guided meditations.

Thank you Farewell Partners for posting this lovely and informative article.

To all our grievers out there, namaste💕

Aloha and gratitude,

Jay and Shell
